Ballast Semi-trailer for extra ballast and commercial vehicle

Clever and practical too, that’s what you can safely call our Ballast Semi-trailer. The Ballast semitrailer is a perfect godsend, because now the crane operators can take extra ballast and their commercial vehicle along to the building site, together with their 80-tonne to 160-tonne telescopic cranes. And if the crane operator wants to go home or to a hotel, he doesn’t have to clock up unnecessary, expensive crane kilometres. After all, the crane is meant to be used for other purposes.

Stable due to low centre of gravity
Nooteboom has chosen rigid stub axles for the Ballast Semi-trailer. This provides a flat loading space of 450 cm in length, 170 cm in width and 82 cm in height, where the ballast can be loaded. The low position of the ballast results in a low centre of gravity. This makes the semi-trailer extremely stable. After the ballast has been loaded, the ‘covers’ are closed. Total length of the Ballast Semi-trailer is 7 m and it is 2.75 m wide. The top deck is approx. 120 cm metre above the ground.

Commercial Vehicle
In the covers aluminium ramps are hidden, which allow the commercial vehicle to simply drive onto the deck. Due to the long ramps and slight angle of gradient the commercial vehicle can drive up on its own, without having to use a winch. A big advantage of this semi-trailer is that the car does not have to be lifted in a cage. This saves a great deal of time and work and prevents damage. Nooteboom's new Ballast Semi-trailer for telescopic cranes weighs approx. four tonnes and can take loads weighing up to a total of seventeen tonnes. The Ballast Semi-trailer is developed in cooperation with Mammoet Nederland who have 15 in use by now. In addition to the functional advantages, Mammoet also opted for this concept specifically for economical reasons because the crane kilometres have been drastically reduced. Considerable cost savings have been realised, which means the Ballast Semi-trailer will soon pay for itself.
